Exascale System Interconnect and Storage<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cac99af elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cac99af\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The ExaNeSt project, started on December 2015 and funded in EU H2020 research\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">framework (call H2020-FETHPC-2014, n. 671553), is a pillar of a larger initiative\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">that aims to demonstrate\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">the efficient usage of low power architectures in Exascale computing platforms. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">ExaNeSt combines industrial and academic research expertise\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">to design the architecture and deploy a fully functional demonstrator of an innovative\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">system-level interconnect, distributed NVM (Non-Volatile Memory) storage and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">advanced cooling infrastructure for an ARM-based ExaFlops-class supercomputer.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-5ee8f9f elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"5ee8f9f\" Figure\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">\u2014 is split into 3 main components: <br \/><\/span><\/p><ol><li><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">the Network Interface\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">(NI), implemented close to each end-node,\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">the intra-rack network IP based on APEnet\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">architecture,<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">a novel microarchitecture\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">to be employed as Top-of-Rack switches<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">.<\/span><\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d54ae17 Quad-FPGA\u00a0daughterboard\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">(QFDB), containing four Zynq Ultrascale+ FPGAs, 64 GB\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">of DRAM and 512 GB SSD storage connected through the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">ExaNeSt Tier 0 network.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" over\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">the High Speed Serial (HSS) links through different levels of the ExaNeSt interconnect\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">hierarchy:<\/span><\/p><ul><li>the high-throughput intra-QFDB level (Tier 0) for data transmission among the four FPGAs of the ExaNeSt node;<\/li><li>the intra-Mezzanine level (Tier 1) directly connecting the network FPGAs of different nodes within the same mezzanine;<\/li><li>inter-Mezzanine communication level (Tier 2) managing the connectivity of the Mezzanine based on SFP+ connectors and allowing for the implementation of a direct network among QFDBs within a Chassis.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section
